Jungle Paintings

Henri Rousseau painted more than 25 jungle themed paintings. He painted ‘The Dream’ in 1910. Jadwigha, his Polish mistress from his youth is reclining nude on a velvet sofa in the middle of the jungle.

Critics were confused by this. So Rousseau wrote a poem to accompany the work… for clarification.

Yadwigha in a beautiful dream
Having fallen gently to sleep
Heard the sounds of a reed instrument
Played by a well-intentioned [snake] charmer.
As the moon reflected
On the rivers [or flowers], the verdant trees,
The wild snakes lend an ear
To the joyous tunes of the instrument.

This year, daughter is having a Jungle themed birthday party, so am spending spare moments during baby’s naps and late at night to paint party props. Jungle themed party props in the making…

Dali showed up about 20 years after Rousseau.

Melting clocks, body parts and innards scattered over landscapes… no wonder he blew their minds!

Star Wars II

Manchild: A full grown man of delayed emotional maturation. They’re easy to spot. He’s the one watching Star Wars with his kids and imparting invaluable light saber moves, courtesy of the toothbrush, the hair comb, the garden rake… anything he can get his hands on really. He’s also thrilled that Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) recently released on Twitter more behind the scenes photos from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Another little boys birthday is on the horizon and a Star Wars book and Lego set needs gift wrap.

Disney Lambert

 Charley Harper…

Nature is brutal, it’s eat or be eaten as Anaconda and Jaguar battle it out. Charley Harper makes the battle for life and limb look so elegant.

Poor cow, tongue out, eaten alive by sleek black Piranhas as butterfly peacefully flutters by.

At the moment am painting with salt and watercolours. Piranhas with gnashing ferocious little teeth.
